Critic's Corner Weekend: 'Friday Night Lights,' 'Frost Giant,' 'The Glades'

•NBC's second-run of Friday Night Lights (tonight, 8 ET/PT) ends its fourth season with a Thanksgiving celebration. And for fans, thanks are in order. The series has been renewed for a fifth (and final) year, and it has finally received some belated, unexpected and extremely well-deserved Emmy attention.

TV TALK: Chat with Robert Bianco on Monday, 2 p.m. ET

• Anyone who is sweltering through summer will appreciate the latest Syfy movie campfest for its cooling title if nothing else: Frost Giant (Saturday, 9 ET/PT). As for the movie itself, it follows an explorer (Dean Cain) whose search for a 19th-century shipwreck turns up an alien ice creature — who immediately begins sucking the heat energy out of the Earth. That has to look bad on a résumé.

• The NFL season, or more precisely, "preseason," kicks off this weekend with NBC's Sunday Night Football (8 ET/5 PT) airing of the Hall of Fame Game. The Bengals meet the Cowboys in this traditional seasonal start, broadcast from Canton, Ohio.

• It looks like the latest murder victim on A&E's entertaining summer mystery The Glades (Sunday, 10 ET/PT) could be Jim's friend Carlos. Of course, as Carlos is a regular character, it won't surprise you to hear that looks are deceiving.
